he Niger Delta Youths have vowed not to vote for the re-election of incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan in next month’s presidential election.

23d12 wpid president20goodluck20jonathan5 Niger Delta Youths vowed not to vote for JonathanThe youths, who spoke through its president, Wilson Ochuko of Mosogar/Jesse Ethiope West, noted through a press release made available to Global Village Extra on Wednesday, 11 February.

The statement read in part: “we are of the Opinion that Nigeria as an indivisible entity is paramount to us, this idea of ethnic / religion politics and sentiments is not what our nation Nigeria needs.

“What we need as a nation today is good governance, and good governance is holistic, that is to say provision of basic amenities such as good roads, water etc and most importantly sharing the resources of the nation equally irrespective of where you come from in Nigeria.

“But disappointingly, President Goodluck Jonathan was in Port Harcourt for his campaign and he told us that the DG of A.P.C said that he did not do anything for the people of Rivers states, Bayelsa Edo and Delta state.

“And to our great surprise and to the surprise of everybody, he agreed that he did not actually do anything for us his people, and his reasons are that he do not want to be seen as a sided president or seen as somebody who is working for his people.

“He is so clueless and daft to know that the resources of this country should be used to developed the country evenly and make life meaningful to the citizens of this great country Nigeria”.

The statement read further, “Another reason why the Niger Delta Youths will not vote GEJ is because GEJ in August 2010 in his own words said 4 years is enough for anyone to make significant improvement and if I cant improve on power within this 4 years, it means I cannot do anything.

“Since these words were spoken, the ministry of power has received allocation of more than five hundred and fifty billion naira to rehabilitate the power sector.

“Before GEJ August 2010, power generation was 3,600 megawatts, and 3,000 megawatts as at January 2015. Yet, someone there is telling me not to vote Buhari, but vote for my brother from the same Niger Delta, GEJ.

“Some people make me laugh. Nigeria will be a better place if we forget geography/religion politics and vote in the right person whom will move this our great country forward.

Another reason why we will not vote for GEJ is the fact that our brother, Mr. President could not sack just one corrupt minister from his cabinet. He said stealing is not corruption.

“He even went as far as making a common criminal, an ex militant Tompolo and Asari Dokumbo a contractor to buy arms for the Nigerian Navy.

“He even made Tompolo a king maker in Delta State. Tompolo single-handedly brought his cousin to become the PDP deputy Governor aspirant in Delta State, thereby depriving the people’s choice; an Isoko man, his right.

“Lastly, why we wont vote GEJ is that The Presidency is said to be currently battling to make sure President Goodluck Jonathan wins the election convincingly by using two well planned strategies.

“The alleged strategies is to prevent Muhammadu Buhari, the All Progressives Congress candidate from contesting the election and replacing INEC Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega, with a less independent-minded person.

“It is said that Jega had been forced to shift the polls and there is a possibility he won’t be allowed by the forces to conduct the rescheduled elections between March 28 and April 11 because his tenure is expected to lapse on June 13 this year.

“That Jega had proven to difficult to handle for the presidency and will be asked to comply with the civil service procedure by proceeding on his three months terminal leave with effect from March 1, this year since he is expected to retire on June 13.

“He wants to cause problem for this country. He forgot he said his re election is not worth our blood. What does he think? Does he think that the common man who climbed a mast to see Buhari will just go back to his house without fighting if GMB is disqualified?
“We, the Niger Delta youth see this as unacceptable by us. We want change, and change we must get”.
